Our Next Concert - Haydn's Creation
23 November 2019
Anvil Theatre (Basingstoke)
The first concert of the 2019/2020 season will be Haydn's Creation. We will be performing this piece in the Anvil on 23 November 2019.
It is believed that Haydn was inspired to write this large scale oratorio during his visits to England in the 1790s, when he heard Handel's oratorios being performed by large choirs. The text, retelling the story of The Creation, is taken from both the Bible and Paradise Lost by John Milton. It is a startlingly dramatic piece and the whole work sparkles with the vitality and unfailing inspiration so characteristic of this remarkable composer.
